ARCC Dividend Summary
Ares Capital is the largest listed U.S. business development company. It originates private loans to middle-market companies, mostly first-lien and second-lien senior debt, and collects the interest. An affiliate of Ares Management manages it.
BDCs exist to pay. Tax rules force Ares Capital to pass through nearly all taxable income, so the dividend is the point. High income, not a compounder.
Ares Capital is a high-income BDC that turns private credit into cash.
